Deer Sounds
Contrary to what many hunters think, white tails make several different sounds. Many times you can locate deer by pinpointing their calls. A fawn looking for its mother bleats somewhat like a sheep. A hurt or wounded deer will make a sound like that of a goat. All deer will snort, either when alarmed or to make an unknown object move. I have, however, observed deer that snort for no apparent reason. The sound is like the expulsion of air under pressure. If hunting during the rut, be alert for the grunting sound of a buck. The sound is similar to the low grunts of a hog.
